Ever heard of a chap called Giorgetto Giugiaro? Well he is reckoned to be the most successful car designer of all time. Take a short stroll down any street in the country and you are likely to find an example of his automotive handywork.

The talented chap will probably want to be remembered for his finer pieces of work which happens to include the original (and best) Golf, the Alfasud (not the rusty bits), the 156, the sharp-looking Lotus Esprit (as driven by Bond underwater), the Ford Mustang (1965) plus odd jobs for Fiat, Ferrari, Audi, Toyota, Ducati, Bugatti, BMW, Lancia, Lamborghini, SAAB, Renault, the list goes on and on. Oh and in between his car doodling he managed to squeeze in a number of camera bodies for Nikon and a keyboard for Bontempi.

The bits he would rather everybody forget include the FSO Polonez, Yugo Zastava, Hyundai Pony and Daewoo Matiz. Well at least he got paid for those pups!

Near the top of his finer creations comes the Maserati Coupe introduced in 2002. Such a dramatic looking car with classic Grand Tourer lines that take you back to the sixties and those films with glamorous film stars driving along those twisty roads around Monaco.

What a lovely sound this car makes too. It is the sound of a proper V8 that snarls and growls like the MGM lion. With 390 bhp the Italian stallion will sprint to 60mph in less than 5 seconds and if you make a quick detour to Germany you will max out at around 180 on the autbahns.

If you fancy a well-cared for example to make the trip we have been asked by the owner a 2005 Nero Carbonio (Carbon Black) manual Coupe to find a good home for his pride and joy. The car has been fully serviced and comes with a full leather interior and SatNav.

Is the Ferrari ‘Daytona’ the best car ever to wear the Prancing Horse? A lot of people think so and original versions can fetch large sums in the right condition. Looking at the car today it is hard to imagine the reaction in 1968 when Ferrari launched the officially titled 365 GTB/4 (B being the Berlinetta or coupe) and the GTS (Spider) following soon after. The design still blows your socks off forty years later.

Several companies in the US and Europe have produced replica versions of the famous Daytona over the years but here in the UK at least the best known was the version produced by Southern Roadcraft. Sadly it appears that today the company no longer exists although there is a website dedicated to their cars – click here to take a look

We are selling on behalf of the owner a beautiful Jet Black SR-bodied Daytona which has been fitted with a 5 litre V12 from a 1982 Ferrari 400i. The car has been constructed with authenticity in mind and many people would be easily convinced that they were looking at an original plexi-glass Daytona from the early seventies.

The current owner had a valuation report carried out in 2008 by Julian Shoolheifer Ltd (www.classiccarvaluations.co.uk)

We have already eulogised over the 355 elsewhere on this blog and we still reckon it is amongst the best of the breed from the Prancing Horse. As a design it seems to get better with age. As a driver’s car it is sublime. It was built in the mid-nineties and yet it feels as good as anything new that comes out of Modena.

Autocar recently did a twin test review with a modern-day Lotus Exige 260 and the comparisons make interesting reading. Click here to take a look. The 355 stacks up well against the lightweight Lotus but more importantly it is reputedly appreciating in value. The Lotus will plummet like a lead balloon from its £46k showroom price and in no more than a couple of years will likely be worth a lot less than the Ferrari. That is not to say it is a bad car and some might prefer to pay a lot less for a car that goes as well as the 355.

Nevertheless it confirms that the 355 is a highly desirable piece of kit and its rarity will make it very sought after indeed.

If you like the idea of paying less than £35k for a manual 355 Spider in Argento with Nero leather then we are selling one on behalf of the owner right now. It has a full Ferrari and Specialist service history and has done only 33,000 miles since it was manufactured in 1997. The car was recently checked out by Foskers at Brands Hatch who have put right some small little jobs that needed sorting and so the car is ready to go.

For full details click here to view the car on our website or give us a call on 0044 (0)1474 854490.

Driving the new SL you can’t help noticing two things ahead of you. The bonnet bulges. They are obvious and they nicely complement the dashing air vents just ahead of the windscreen. Looking at an image of the first generation SL from the mid-50’s you can see exactly where the inspiration came from and that is no bad thing. Not many bonnets are that interesting quite frankly but the one on this SL350 is a thing of beauty.

What SL350 we hear you say? Well, we are marketing a 2009 example in Carbonite Black with only 4000 miles on the clock on behalf of the owner. This SL is extremely well-specified and comes with a stunning set of 5-spoke alloys and the desirable Sports Package as well as the usual COMAND satnav and mutlimedia system including CD, DVD, Bluetooth and i-Pod functionality. The SL350 features the creamy-smooth V6 in MB’s range which whips 315 horses into action so performance is more than adequate.

The original purchase price of this of this SL was in excess of £72k just under a year ago and can now be purchased for a smidgen under £50k! A not inconsiderable saving indeed.

Appetite suitably whetted? Then click here for more information or contact us on 0854 643 2047.
