The Alfa Romeo 8C Spider is a beautiful car, the type that makes you just gawp, stare and dribble for long periods. A troupe of naked dancers would not avert your eyes from this car’s glorious curves. It will be remembered as an all-time great from Alfa which is wherein lies the source of our angst.

OK Alfa have produced some pretty decent looking cars over the years and a few duds too – how about the 1980’s Arna based on a Nissan Cherry? The 8C however, is an iconic piece of automotive design and yet they decided to only produce 500 each of the Coupe and the Spider. They built over 50,000 of the dreadful Arna for goodness sake!

Presumably there is method in their madness while in the meantime every 8C owner can sit pretty smug knowing that there are only 499 other similar works of art out there for posterity. So how about the other numbers then?

Well for starters it has a 4.7 litre V8 lump sprinkled with Ferrari-dust that musters up a rampant 450 horses. This gets the 8C to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds and allows for a top speed of around 180 mph. So it’s fast then. But then it is the sort of car that looks like it’s going fast even when it is standing still. Nice.

We’ve recently had the chance to photograph a gorgeous Competizione Red 8C Spider which belongs to somebody who has now decided to sell his pride and joy. This stunning 2010 8C Spider which has covered less than 500 miles is featured on our website and can be viewed by clicking here.

Whenever BMW launch a new version of the M3 the world holds its breath in anticipation of how on earth the company could improve on a car that is so good at what it does. And yet they have done it again. The E90-93 series moves the game on with its lightweight V8 420 hp power unit (that’s a awful lot more than the outgoing E46 version) and a choice of Coupe, Saloon, Estate and Cabriolet. A car indeed for all reasons! The cabriolet version is only just starting to ship to BM dealerships and we know of a brand new Jerez Black example that will be available for some lucky individual to purchase for this September. This is the DCT version that will come with a Bamboo leather interior plus SatNav, 19″ M-Spoke Alloys, Electronic Damper Control, Electric Mirrors, Mirror Anthracite Dash Trim, Through-Load System, Heated Front Seats, USB Bluetooth, Telematics, DAB Radio and Hi-Fi Loudspeaker System. Price £62995. Did you know that the DCT (Double Clutch Transmission) or DKG (Doppel-Kupplungs-Getriebe in its native tongue) gearbox is faster than the SMG version it replaces and reduces shift-changes to less than one tenth of a second. Trivia: When Usain Bolt broke the world 100m sprint record in 9.72 seconds each step touched the ground for less than one tenth of a second. So it’s very quick indeed. If you would like more details of this forthcoming M3 cabriolet please email sales@thecarspy.net or give us a call on 01474 854490. For those that can’t wait for the real thing download BMW’s M3 Challenge PC game here. It’s free, takes about 10 minutes to download and install but its well worth it if you fancy flinging a nice white shiny new M3 around the Ring with great abandon!

Britain is Europe’s largest market for convertibles – fact. For a country that has one type of weather i.e. unpredictable and largely wet us Brits have an inexplicable appetite for soft tops (or coupe-cabriolets). Maybe we like to imagine that we are cruising down Sunset Strip in balmy LA when in reality we are basking under a thick chilly blanket of grey cloud with the heater on full blast. Maybe that is the point though. Let’s face it driving topless in searing heat can be a rather unpleasant experience. It’s certainly a quick way to get your bonce barbecued which is why we end up tearing around on the Costa del Sol in an air-conditioned small hatch just like the rest of the locals. So our moist little island is made for convertibles and what better example of the genre is the Porsche 911. So well-made that there is no perceptible difference between the build-quality and integrity of the coupe and the cabriolet versions and that turbine-like 315 BHP flat-six sounds even better with the roof down. Got that appetite whetted? How about one in silver with grey leather with a matching hardtop? 6-speed manual gearbox, GT3 body mouldings, Carrera Alloys and a Full Porsche Service History. Forget the weather – strip off and crank up the heater – there’s nothing like it! Click here for more details.

Spring is in the air and that normally means the rush to buy a cool convertible gets underway. This 2002 BMW 330Ci Automatic looks stunning in Schwartz Black with its ‘Individual’ cream nappa leather interior and walnut trim detailing. One owner from new with a full BMW service history (the big Inspection 2 service was done only 3000 miles ago) this car has covered a sensible 59k miles from new. A colour-coded hardtop is included which has such a nice tight fit you would think you were driving a coupe! Click here for more details.
