Lots of news lately from Aston Martin it seems and today the company has released details of the new V12 Vantage Roadster. No major design changes to the very recognisable ‘Baby Aston’ shape but plenty of tweaks and additions to warrant the relatively high-price tag of this new addition to the line-up.
There is an abundance of carbon fibre to be found on the new model in the form of side strakes, front splitter, rear diffuser, mirror caps and rear lamp infills. Other unique features on the V12 Roadster include newly-designed forged alloy wheels, glass interior switches plus a ‘personalisation’ package which includes carbon fibre bits for the interior.
The V12 is the powerplant that has made the Coupe such a raucous, wild animal so its appearance in the Roadster was inevitable really. There is power aplenty with over 500 bhp and 570 Nm of torque which means that 60 mph comes up in around 4 seconds and top speed is in the order of 190 mph. The added benefit of the Roadster is the fact that you can now wallow in the glorious bark of the V12 without having to go looking for tunnels!
There is also a ‘Sport Mode’ function which gives the driver two options for driving dynamics – Normal and er…Sport. Normal makes the car feel a little more relaxed for town driving while the other option sets the car up for a more race-mode like experience. More torque is delivered earlier on in ‘Sport’ plus the exhaust system bypass valves are kept open longer to make the car even louder – nice!
No official delivery dates have been published for the car yet but we have been informed by a reliable source that the car will be made in limited numbers and possibly only 40 V12 Vantage Roadsters will be available for the UK market. Orders can be placed now, however, and the expected retail price is around £150000.
